Create A Windows 2008 R2 Base Image

Watch: Base Configuration Video

1. Download .NET 4.5.
.NET 4.5 is a prerequisite for Windows Management Framework 4

2. Download Windows Management Framework 4.
Windows Management Framework 4 includes PowerShell 4.0

3. Download the Windows Server 2008 R2 Evaluation ISO from Microsoft

4. Create the BaseImage_2008R2 VM...

  • Set PowerShell Execution Policy to RemoteSigned from an elevated PowerShell session
  • Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned

  • Import-Module c:\ASAPAutomation\ASAP.ps1

  • Get-ASAPTemplate2008R2 -BaseImageISO path\to\Windows2008R2.ISO

  • Follow the steps below during the VM Creation process...

  • 1. During OS Install
    When prompted to enter a password enter
    a. P@ssw0rd

    2. After OS Install
    Please manually install VirtualBox Guest Additions
    a. Select Devices from the VM Console File Menu
    b. Insert Guest Additions CD image...
    c. Navigate CD Drive on VM
    d. Run VBoxWindowsAdditions.exe selecting defaults along the way

    3. After VirtulBox Guest Additions Install
    a. Select Devices from the VM Console File Menu
    b. Please remove Guest Additions CD from VM CD/DVD Devices
    c. Power off VM

    4. After VirtulBox Guest Additions Install
    We will now Sysprep the system
    a. Add a shared folder to the VM
    * Highlight VM in VirtualBox Manager
    * Right Click "Settings"
    * Click "Shared Folders"
    * Add a new shared folder
    - Folder path is c:\asapautomation\Share
    - Folder name is Share
    - Select "Automount"
    b. Power on VM
    c. Navigate to e: on VM
    d. Run BaseConfig.bat and acknowledge all prompts

    5. After Sysprep
    After VM has been Sysprep'd and has powered itself off
    a. Create a snapshot
    * Highlight VM
    * Select Snapshots from top right corner of VirualBox
    * Click on the camera
    b. Name the Snapshot (Case Sensitive)
    * Name = SysPrep

    6. You are now ready to run ASAP
    a. Start PowerShell and enter the following
    b. Import-Module c:\ASAPAutomation\ASAP.ps1
    c. Start-ASAP -Config c:\ASAPAutomation\Configurations\SampleConfig.csv
